Middle Island Press Chapbooks by Judith A. Davis:
Just Roll Over and Go Back To Sleep
and Other Rhymes (2013)
Known for her “signature” mouse, Judith A. Davis proffers Just Roll Over and Go Back to Sleep and Other Rhymes – a 49-page country collection of devotional verse both serious and light; both humbling and inspiring. Though chock-full of biblical references to “The Good Word,” this book is not intended to be a substitute for going to church!

While walking alone, deep in thought,
Dwelling on doubt and despair
Over and over with no resolution,
My life was aimless. I was going nowhere.
A stranger appeared in the corner of my eye.
Humbled by His countenance I was made whole.
Recognizing Him was easy.
He peered into my soul.
When He spoke He said, “It is written,
My chosen bride I am coming to claim.
A special list of believers -
May I add your name?”
My heart was cleansed and purified.
I was assured that He would be coming soon.
My life has never been the same
Since we crossed paths one afternoon.
John 3:29; Revelation 21:9
Torn, burdened, overwrought?
Look to help from above.
He bears us up “with wings like eagles”
On His infinite love.
A fledgling with wings of down
A babe inexperienced, lame
No long flight feathers to enable me
Until “self” reliance is tamed.
Stronger wings develop from
Practiced jumps over the nest
Each lesson a challenge in faith
Until I can pass the test.
I’ll trust in the Lord
In mornings and throughout the night
Until on wings He takes me away
To bask in eternal Light.
